Several times a month I’m told, “You’re Amazing!” I politely say thanks while stifling my laugh. The only thing I can figure is perception makes a huge difference. Many times in the past I’ve mentioned to my husband how it seems when someone learns I pick out my own clothes and they match, they’ll tell me I’m amazing. By the time they learn I can cook, recognize their voice, or dial a phone without looking, they’re in awe.
A mother has eyes in the back of her head, and this mother’s worked quite well even though the ones on my face didn’t. My youngest daughter and my grandsons couldn’t figure out how I could tell when they were daydreaming, skipped problems, or were getting frustrated during our homeschooling years. No matter how awesome I appeared, though, I couldn’t tell if catsup was on their cheek or shirt. I couldn’t drive myself to the store, and needed help finding the remote. To me, walking without a cane in your own home doesn’t take talent. Sorting clothes or matching outfits might be more challenging, but tricks and special tools make it possible. Knowing this, I’m not as impressed with myself as others are. I’m just a person who happens to be blind.
What’s interesting to me is how amazing others are.
To hear a beautiful voice, about detailed artwork, an athlete’s accomplishments, a youth taking a stand for their beliefs, or a child giving sacrificially impresses me. They’re amazing! Even more amazing, though are those I meet who can sleep without heat, air, a mattress, or under a bridge. People who get a G.E.D. fifteen years after they should’ve graduated, are cancer survivors, fought in combat, and those overcoming emotional issues from physical and sexual abuse are super amazing!
As a matter of fact, all of you are AMAZING! Each one of you has a story. Each one of you has overcame something to become the person you
are today. Even if you think you’re ordinary, you are extraordinary to someone else…especially to the One who created you.
What kinds of things impress you in a person? Please share.

Jena, I really enjoy reading your blog posts. I haven’t missed reading any of them. Prior to meeting you I was never dedicated to random blogs any longer than skimming one by accident but, I have found myself looking forward to each one of your postings. Your style of writing is captivating and I always find some sort of inspiration or motivation lying within your experiences by being able to relate.
Kind Regards,
David

I loved this post! I have the opportunity to witness your awesomeness on a weekly basis because we attend church together. I think it’s amazing to watch you put your flute together so perfectly and then to hear you play so fluidly without ever seeing a single note on a page!!!
Also, To me Christians are amazing who stand the tests of time with deaths, material losses, deep disappointments, and daily struggles of this life. It’s amazing that they remain constant and stable in their Christian walk with the Lord and they remain faithful to God’s Word and attendance to the house of God! That’s amazing!
Sadly, there are many in this day and time who do not pass this test!
Love & Blessings,
Robin
