‘Tis the season for being thankful, but I didn’t want to say what comes easy so I decided to change my focus a bit. After reflecting, here’s what I’m thankful for about being blind…plus more.
I’m Thankful for vision loss
- It allows me to see people’s hearts, instead of being influenced or distracted by their physical appearance or material possessions…good, bad, or indifferent.
- It provides opportunity to develop my other senses, even though my sense of feel remains bad.
- Recurring vision loss forced me to set my priorities and simplify my life.
I’m thankful to serve in the ministry
1. It has provided more education than a doctorate…FREE!
2. Helping others makes you feel good about yourself.
3. Frustrated when those I help don’t meet my expectations or suffer from repetitive failures gives me a glimpse into how God might feel, bringing repentance, and striving to walk closer to Him.
I’m thankful for family
1. My parents who gave me a stable home life – meeting all my needs, many wants, and providing much love and support.
2. My three imperfect children with no outwardly visible gifts or talents, but plenty of character, a willingness to turn their messes into messages, and for loving and respecting us…BEST FRIENDS FOREVER!
3. My loving knight in shining armor who strengthens me, is my partner in crime, and who goes the extra mile “doing” for me while treating me
like a queen, even if he’s tired from helping others.
I’m thankful for friends
1. Each one digs a feature out, causing me to blossom with their support.
2. Friends provide a listening ear, a hand to hold, an embrace, and words I need to hear.
3. Keep me from feeling alone.
I’m thankful for the simple things
1. To feel the warm sunshine and the breeze on and across my skin.
2. Songs are in our hearts and music plays in our heads.
3. The pleasure of waking up next to someone who loves me more than life itself.
I’m thankful for hard times
1. Hard times make good times better instead of boring (tweet that!).
2. They reveal who your true friends are.
3. Sparks an appreciation for simple things
I’m thankful to be an American
1. I could’ve been born in a Muslim country.
2. Even though we’re regressing, we still have more freedoms than anywhere else in the world. We have the freedom to read God’s Word.
3. I had the privilege to be a home educator.
I’m thankful for Jesus Christ
1. He paid a debt He did not owe by dying on the cross for me. He rose from the dead so I might live with Him eternally. .
2. His Word, the Bible, guides my path giving me daily wisdom.
3. He sent His Holy Spirit to give me comfort.
4. He carries my burdens so I don’t have to.
5. He’s my best friend!

Loved this blog post Jena! It is very touching to hear all of the things you are thankful for that many people take for granted……
I am thankful for Salvation and for God’s faithfulness and relentless love for we his children. I am also thankful for a husband who loves me more each day as we continue to grow older together. I am thankful to have two grown children who have remained true to their Christian upbringing. Both are serving the Lord and are in ministry working to reach the lost for the cause of Christ.
I am thankful for the opportunity to work alongside my two wonderful and loving Pastors Steve & Jena Fellers at Trinity Worship Center in Baxter Springs, Kansas.
One thing that I do know is that God is so good and he does all things with excellence!

Hi Robin! I’m thankful for all you do at church, and for being my friend. Thanks for sharing all you’re thankful for as well. If nothing else, I thought my sharing might cause others to think about what they’re thankful for too. Blessings.

I am thankful for my wife and her career. This allows me to be able to be a stay at home dad caring for our son whom I am also thankful for. We wanted children for so long and thought it would never happen but, finally we were blessed with our little miracle. I cherish every minute I have with him.

I’m thankful you have your little miracle, too, and are provided with the opportunity to be a strong influence in his life. Thanks for sharing that with us. Blessings to you and your family.
