What makes a video go viral?
Why can so many view the same painting at a museum, yet be overlooked by many others?
What makes a book a best-seller?
Is it a great author or super marketing?
How about music groups?
No matter what the object, reactions, and responses will vary. Why is this? Well, the most obvious answer is WE’RE ALL DIFFERENT. Similarities will always exist, but each person was created uniquely by God. Even medicine affects people differently.
Some commonalities do exist in building enough desire to watch, listen, read, or buy a product. Certain elements can almost guarantee you will share them with friends and family. You may be wondering why I’m discussing this. It had nothing to do with the recent release of my book, but rather a thought I had on the Bible. Keep reading to learn the odd connections made in my brain.
The elements building enough desire to buy a product may or may not surprise you. They are:
1. The viewer or buyer is related to, or friends with the creator, author, or member of the band.
2. The product has previously been consumed by the purchaser before.
3. The product comes highly recommended by a trusted individual.
4. The particular product appeals to those interested in that genre.
For it to be more desirable so the person will share it via social media or tell others, it must:
– make a person feel special, or like they’ll be a trend-setter
– impact the individual emotionally
– add practical value
– have personal stories
I realize not every reader needs to know this – at least you believe you don’t.
Keep reading, and you might change your mind.
You see, one product exists that evokes a multitude of reactions – positive and negative. It’s the Bible, and reactions to it tend to weigh on the far left or the far right.
To the Christian, the Bible. . .
gives comfort
gives hope of eternal life
encourages them daily
is studied
is the foundation of their faith
is considered a living word, as something new is gleaned each time it is reread
To the sinner, the Bible. . .
is ignored
is sometimes despised
creates anger
is ridiculed and mocked
is burned or destroyed
is feared
To preachers. . .
it is powerful, intriguing, studied, divided, inspected, analyzed, taught from, memorized, depended upon
We can’t forget for some. . .
the family Bible is used to pass from generation to generation, preserving family genealogy inside its covers, collects dust while displayed to look important, and is rarely, or never, read.
Matthew 28:19,20, which is known as the Great Commission, tells Christians to preach the Gospel message to the lost. When doing so, we must remember that people won’t be interested in hearing us, or God’s Word, without first seeing love demonstrated in us. A relationship must form in order to build trust.
How we share should include a personal story, information to add value, or make them feel special. If we don’t, the chances of our succeeding decrease immensely.
Be genuine, full of compassion, show God’s Word more often than telling it, and let people know how God and His love letters to mankind have made a difference in your life. Following these steps by being more intentional every day. Mix with a heap of prayer, and let the Holy Spirit lead, and the Bible has the potential to go viral.
It will change our world, the way it has throughout history, starting in Acts, chapter 2.
You now have the tools to change our world by following Jesus’ commandment. Let’s become more intentional the rest of the year and see what happens.

As always, I appreciate your taking time to stop in to read my thoughts. Bear with me as my sharing buttons may or may not be working properly. Feel free to try, though. You are a blessing to me.
Have a safe Fourth of July!
