As a blind person, I rely on a cane or a sighted guide since I don’t use a seeing-eye dog. But, that’s not the only thing I rely on others for. Everyone relies on others to some degree.
I mean, a business owner relies on employees to show up and work honestly. We rely and put trust in a mechanic to repair our car in time for vacation, or rely on construction workers to build our home. The list could go on forever.
With recently planning a wedding for my youngest daughter, I relied on others much more than usual. Of course, everyone has to rely on cake decorators, photographers, and the like to perform their gifts to the best of their abilities, but this isn’t what I’m referring to. During this entire process, I had to rely on others for shopping, matching colors, describing things to me, to purchase the right amounts of food, and much more. All of this without my seeing to double-check if they got the right size, put things in the right place, or if it really looked good. I placed my complete trust in whether or not it was the right shade of pink. Basically, forming my own opinion wasn’t truly possible.
Now that I’ve painted a grim picture and everyone is feeling sorry for me, I’m here to tell you not to. Instead, I want to let you know how good God is and was to me during my wedding planning. God gave me friends or family with the ability to describe things to me, who had extra time to shop, and who respected our dreams and desires over doing it their way. They shopped at thrift stores and bridal places scouring for bargains and best buys. God didn’t let them down either. He brought out their gifts in design and resources. I mean, a cake decorator slaved making a beautiful cake for free. A cake made from love for a friend, the one I was relying so heavily upon.
In life we rely on others to varying degrees, but we can’t escape placing our trust in someone sometime. Why is it then that it is so difficult for people to rely on God to this level?
The more we rely on God, the smoother our life goes.
Yes, I ran into plenty of obstacles during planning this wedding, but I wasn’t alone. I had a friend to work things through with. I knew I could count on her. God is the same way. He is there to assist, guide, and even carry you when you get tired. Our ultimate goal, though, is not to rely on Him the way I relied on my friend who carried out my desires, but rather the way I rely on a sighted guide. He will direct our path. He desires us to place complete trust in Him.
If there’s anything you’re not relying on Him for, I’d love to encourage you to do so today.
Things will definitely go smoother.

What a lovely reminder. I really enjoy how you take whatever situation you are going through and find the nugget to share with others.
Thank you for this encouragement!

I’m glad my so-called nuggets encouraged you. I’ve always loved object lessons and have a tendency to make a lesson out of everything. May you be blessed.

Thanks, June. Just consider me a favorite restaurant where you can easily dine semi-weekly. The course of your meal is always a surprise. Hopefully, everyone goes away with plenty to digest and is well satisfied. LOL.
