celebrated 20 years of pastoring Trinity Worship Center.Today, I’m celebrating by sharing some interesting facts about us to
amuse you. Enjoy.
* I wanted to follow in my parent’s footsteps, who married on mom’s birthday. Instead, I found someone with the SAME birthday. Life became more interesting when our marriage license said we wed the day after our ceremony. My husband has a second chance if he forgets.* I’m unusual because I can recognize people in my church by their coughs, sneezes, belches, hiccups, and the way they clear their throats. Watch out! Steve can read lips while preaching, as well as having a very good memory. Just ask him where certain food is for our Community Dinners, or at home. He’ll tell you exactly where to look.
* Everyone has pet names for their love. Mine for Steve is “Romeo,” or
at least that’s what everyone believes. Maybe that’s because he
responds by calling me Juliet. The truth is, I call him “Roameo” when
he’s disappeared. It’s code for you forgot to tell me where you went.”
(an important action to a blind person)
* We’re 20 years into pastoring, yet Steve didn’t want to be a pastor, and being blind, I didn’t believe I could be a pastor’s wife. Steve originally wanted to be a constitutional lawyer or a Christian comedian. Believe it, or not, God uses those interests.
* Both of us play on our churches Praise and Worship team. What most people don’t know is Steve hadn’t played a guitar until after age 40, when he took eight lessons. I played the flute in school, but read music only. Twelve years passed before God nudged me to play again. Unable to read music by then, God taught me to play by ear.
Rarely will you see me playing my flute without Steve strumming his guitar, or vica-versa. Why is that? I’m glad you asked. While it’s true I play by ear, I match notes to Steve’s voice as he sings. And, Steve listens to me for timing. Can’t keep a beat without ME.
* For some reason, many have found it romantic that Steve built my house. Yep. That is how we met. I hired a contractor who hired him, he built it and fell in love along the way, or else wanted a new house to live in really bad. Either way, we’re celebrating 25 years in August.
Since then, we moved to a house he gutted and added on to. Five years
ago, he built me a cozy cottage in the country.
* For our entire marriage, Steve has always worked more than one job simultaneously. Most in sales or construction. We also tried our hand at owning a print shop and making and selling prepaid phone cards. . .I worked by his side, and home schooled.
* We drove a car for 4 years before learning we didn’t own it. Yep, wrong vehicle identification number. In Kansas, they informed us a blind person cannot own a car so my name couldn’t be on the title anymore. Later, they said I could so, we asked to put both our names on our next car title. They only put mine. The licensed driver doesn’t own a car. How ironic.
* Steve experienced several miracles growing up. Me, a few. During our
marriage, we’ve witnessed many more. Writing a list to consider for a
book series about miracles, I quickly recalled almost ninety. I am
truly blessed.
Let’s Talk. What fact did you find most amusing? Better yet, share a
memory you recalled while reading.

Your posts are always terrific, Jena. This one was especially sweet, in that you let us into your home and hearts personally.
The way every event in your lives is surrendered to the glory of GOD is such a great testimony and legacy.
Say “HI” to Romeo for me……God bless you, Steve’s beautiful bride!

Thanks, Marybeth. I wasn’t sure hwo people would react to information about us. Pretty boring topic in my mind, but took a chance. I pray our lives glorify God’s the way yours does. Love your ending salutation. Bless you, my dear.

Thanks for commenting, Beverly. Bruce already knew about the Romeo (Roameo) thing – lol. Yes, I will see you at the convention. Opening services is our 25th anniversary – EXCITING! No better place to celebrate than in the House of God with fellow believers.

I enjoyed reading entire article. Enjoyed reading how you met. Amazing how God truly ordains our steps and put couples together. It’s fun hearing the little nick names Roameo & Juliette. LOL
Take Care. See you at convention.

Enjoyed your life facts! Been awhile since I have read your writing but truly enjoyed it. I think my favorite is the blind person owning the car that the sighted one drives. Love you my friend!

Love you, too, lady! Yes, I’ve been silent way longer than I meant o. Life has thrown some overwhelming fiery darts and it has taken me this long to get back in the saddle again. God is good and faithful. Moving forward…not sure what speed yet. You’ll have to tell me what you’re doing with your live videos. Will you be at convention?
