A precious baby leaves the comfort of his mother’s dark womb, emerging into a world with bright light, noise, and a love for being held tight. Freedom gives room to grow for this tiny infant. Before you know it, his or her eyes open fixating on any light. Black and white are the only colors visible to newborns. A smile emerges across the tiny face when these colors resemble the face of their nurturing parents.
Passing from a newborn to a baby, bright colors and shapes become attractive. Soon, more and more surrounding noises infiltrate, demanding attention away from the parents while attempting to get their baby to respond to them. Next, comes learning to walk and talk…independence.

With only a sliver of sight remaining, I often catch myself staring at a light. Sometimes, it’s upward to guide me, sometimes, it makes me feel not alone, and other times it provides warmth and comfort…like a security blanket. Light is better than good to me. As I think about how often I feel like a baby when catching myself staring at a light, I realize as Christians that’s exactly what we need to be doing more of.
Focusing on Christ. We emerge from darkness to light when we’re born again into God’s Kingdom. His light is what makes us feel warm and comfortable. We enjoy gazing at His face, the face of our Creator and nurturer. Unfortunately, we start growing up and allow the distractions of the world to infiltrate our lives. We try to do everything by ourselves. Oh, we want Him near us in case we fall down or get hungry, but no more than that.
Like parents, our Heavenly Father wants to forgive us, longs for our attention, and waits to hear call out His Name.
Prayer. Jesus, thank you for setting us FREE. Help us to fix our eyes on you, the Light of the World. Let us not be distracted by the world, but rather, let us be Your vessel so we can be Your light to others. Amen.

Yes, June. We need to remain attracted to the LIGHT the way a newborn baby is. Hallelujah! Thanks for commenting. I apologize for the delay in responding. Blessings to you.
