Jumping out of bed upon waking, I scurried to the restroom. I was rudely interrupted with a “WHAM”! Excruciating pain went from my big toe to my thigh as I quickly grabbed it. “What happened?” my mind wondered. My hand searched for clues. I know better than walking too fast since I only have light perception, and very little of that, but when a girl’s gotta go, she’s gotta go!
My deductive reasoning finally drew a conclusion. I mean, I knew I had kicked the door, but couldn’t figure out why at first. You see, I always look upwards while automatically walking towards the bathroom ceiling light I leave on to guide me. However, the bathroom door jumped out and kicked me.
Okay, I got a little carried away there. I realized I had automatically walked towards a light alright, but it wasn’t up high. It was much brighter luring me without any thought. You see, our bedroom window is next to the door and it happened to be a sunny morning. The light peered through a break in the curtain reflecting off the door’s edge. Over-confidence or inattentiveness will get you every time. I knew better. I know how easily my environment changes on a dime. I know it’s important to be attentive at all times, yet I followed the wrong light just because it appeared brighter to me at that moment.
This little incident reminded me of the addicts, and many others we minister to in our Word in Action Ministry. We hurry through life doing things the same way, often not following the real light, but what is brighter at the moment, and more appealing, even when we know better. Then, all of a sudden, “Wham!” Something painful occurs causing us to stop, reflect, and evaluate the situation we’ve gotten ourselves into. It’s during these times, a person has an opportunity to find the real light, Jesus Christ.
Even when we realize something has gone sideways, it doesn’t mean the pain hurt bad enough to change. Many times we’re still in a hurry and focused on where we’re going, not taking time to stop and reflect.
Opportunities surround us to see the “Light” every day if we only open our eyes, hearts, and minds to Him. Every day, every moment, we have a choice to follow the devil disguising himself as the “angel of light,” or we can choose to follow the real light, Jesus Christ.
What kind of painful moments have caused you to get closer to God?

Jena,
What a marvelous post! It is something I can really relate to! Especially the part about every day we can see the brighter light or the real light. We make that choice many times per day. Perhaps the fake light was by author event and the real light is to trust Jesus for his perfect timing.

Hey Amy, sharing the same eye disease does make this post relatable to you. Being a Christian makes you understand a brighter, distracting light as well. You might be right about the event. Only God knows for sure, but it’s good to see you trusting Him.

Hello Jean. This is so true. We also have to be attentive and on-guard at all times. Thanks for leaving a comment. See you soon.

How true that the old deceiver comes only to steal, kill and destroy. Focusing on the true light will help us not to be deceived by a fake light.
