Even those not receiving tax returns, more than likely spent savings going on vacations or special outings for spring break. Therefore, finding easy ways to save money might appeal to them as well.
Those not falling in either of these categories could need to save money to pay income taxes. If not, how about the need for buying garden items, new mowers for summer, or air conditioners. It’s fairly safe to say, everyone needs to save money. However, I’m not convinced you’ll try this list of super easy ways to save money. In fact, you might find them a bit peculiar, too simple, or quite odd.
Trust me, no matter how bad you want to save money, this light-hearted list will make you reconsider whether easy ways to save money is really that easy, or not. Once you’re done laughing, or saying, “I’d never do that,” keep reading to the end. After all, you know how I enjoy changing your focus. Today, I’m just doing so with a warped sense of humor and a lot of hyperbole.
1. Walk to work and school, or car pool, on good weather days to save gas.
…not only saves money on gas, but exercise is free (no need for a gym membership)
2. Consider cutting back on buying soda pops at your favorite convenient store …saves money, and pounds (great free diet plan)
3. Do your own nails and hair ladies.
…you might discover a new talent! Anyway who’s looking that closely? (not me)
4. Limit the pairs of new shoes your family obtains.
…not only saves money, but shopping time, and time choosing which pair to wear (great space-saver, too)
5. Get rid of all pets, except for therapy animals.
…think of all the food, treats, grooming, and vet bills saved (no one is lonely with today’s technology so get a virtual pet instead)
6 Hey, women, try going without your makeup.
…saves bunches of money (natural is beautiful)
7. Get rid of chocolate, and other desserts and candy.
…instead of saving the whales, we can save diabetes, and medical expenses (here’s to longer, but boring life)
8. Cut back on video games, satellite television, internet, and cell phones.
…this not only saves money, but will be less noise pollution, gets people back to conversing, and you won’t have to keep learning new technology (might have to get a real pet again, though)
9. Go without carrying a purse, briefcase, or backpack.
…this not only saves money, but also saves chiropractor bills (improves spinal care)
10. Don’t buy cologne or perfume
…Use good soap instead. (besides, too many people are allergic)
As I wrote this apparently, exaggerated list, I realized why, it appears ridiculous to us, even though it would truly save us money. Are you ready for my great revelation? To choose to save money by any of these methods, would mean getting out of our comfort zone, as well as risking embarrassment in front of our friends.
Think about it.
What would life be like if we had to go backwards to the way our parents and grandparents lived? Great savings, or not, none of us would choose my suggestions – requires too much sacrifice, regardless of the benefits.
Did you know?
Those living in poverty in America live at a higher standard of living than those in many countries. I should know. Our Word in Action Ministry helps them every day. How did you think I came up with such a list? Even with a higher standard of living than other countries, those we serve every day live by the majority of items represented above.
Do you think the poor are comfortable living this way? Are they embarrassed? They are humans born in the U.S.A. also. Just something to think about next time you buy your sixth purse, fiftieth video game, fourth vehicle, or when you’re eating a juicy steak at a restaurant.
QUESTION. What kind of financial struggle have you faced? Did someone have compassion on you and did this experience stir up more compassion for the poor than if you hadn’t struggled?
Thanks for bearing with and sharing my weird thoughts so faithfully. I appreciate your time and comments.

Ouch!
Mary says
I grew up poor so I learned early on how to go without. It definitely has shaped who I am today and the compassion I have toward others. I am so thankful for my relationship with Christ and that I know where my treasure truly lies. I have all the riches of Heaven In Him!
Jena Fellers says
Amen to the knowing where our treasure lies. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us for what He calls us to do. I’d rather walk in the dark with Jesus, than in the light alone. Amen?
